NEWSLETTER OF THE FRIENDS OF THE LAKE OSWEGO PUBLIC LIBRARY * OCTOBER 2026

From Library Director Melissa Kelly: Friends advocate for Library programs

Thank you to the Friends for the important role you play in supporting the Library's mission. We are grateful to everyone who has renewed their membership and to those who have joined the Friends for the first time. Your investment ensures Library programs continue to thrive.

With the Friends generous support, the 2026 Summer Library Challenge engaged 1,731 youth and 565 adults, who together logged more than one million minutes of reading. Participants of all ages enjoyed interactive programs, earned prizes, and strengthened their lifelong love of reading and learning. These opportunities, and many others throughout the year, would not be possible without the support of the Friends.

As we celebrate this impact, we are also engaged in phased planning for the Library's future. The Library Site Reuse Task Force has begun its work, and the City Council will soon appoint a Future Library Task Force.  A balanced approach will consider community values and priorities, responsible use of public funds, and long-term community needs.

We know our community has questions about Library building maintenance, future facility costs, and what a new library could mean for Lake Oswego. We appreciate this engagement and are committed to providing clear and accurate information as it becomes available. Please visit the Library website for the latest project updates, frequently asked questions, and opportunities to participate in the planning process.

The Friends have always been among the Library’s strongest advocates, and your voice helps others understand the Library’s value today and why thoughtful planning matters for its future. We’re grateful for your continued commitment to helping the Library serve our community for generations to come.
